Monday

DRAWING AND PAINTING

with Candi Feinburg –6 weeks starting July 7th

Gesture, form, color, and space are explored through all media, augmented by class discussion and individual critique, Still life/model will be used each session. All levels of drawing and painting are encouraged.

PASTEL

with Peggy Dressel – 6 weeks starting July 7th

Create beautiful paintings using pastels alone or create a new, unique look by combining with watercolor, acrylic or oil. Enhance and give your work zing through the use of color. Drawing and composition will be covered. Portrait, landscape or still life.

SCULPTURE  STONE/WOOD

Find the joy and excitement in carving a form in stone in a congenial atmosphere. Nonrepresentational as well as figurative methods will be taught with the emphasis on creating three-dimensional shapes. All levels of ability

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR

Explore watercolor, see if it’s the medium for you.  All basic techniques will be covered.

Tuesday

SCULPTURE STONE

with Natalie Frier – 6 weeks starting July 8th

10:00 am – 1:00 pm, 12:30pm-3:30pm or 7pm-10pm $160.

All day (10:00 am – 3:30 pm) $250.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS/ALL MEDIA & LEVELS

Principles of composition, color, form and space. All media are explored, augmented by class discussion.

PAINTING LANDSCAPES: INSIDE/OUTSIDE

We'll start painting our landscapes en plein air (weather permitting) and complete them in the studio.

THE FIGURE FROM BLACK and WHITE to COLOR

Traditional and non-traditional approaches to drawing and painting the figure will be explored moving from black to white to color. All levels welcome.

Wednesday

PORTRAIT AND FIGURE PAINTING

with Jin Young Koh – 5 weeks starting July 9th

Short and/or long poses, model each session.

WATERCOLOR EN PLEIN AIR

with Peggy Dressel – 6 weeks starting July 9th

9:30 – 12:30am $160.

Paint landscapes on location (weather permitting). With watercolor, pastel, or just sketch. Classes will be held at the art center when necessary.

PAINTING FROM FLORAL/STILL LIFE

with Max Horbund – 6 weeks starting July 9th

1:30 pm – 4:30 pm $190.

Course focuses on approaches to painting including the chiaroscuro tradition of European masters. Students will be guided through the challenge of realistically representing still life in oil. Many aspects of still life painting will be discussed and illustrated. Discussions on picture composition and creation of atmosphere, sense of mystery, proper preparation of painting materials. Demonstrations and individual critiques.

BASIC & ADVANCED PAINTING & DRAWING

with Max Horbund – 6 weeks starting July 9th

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm $160.

Includes study of materials and color theory.

PHOTOGRAPHY – TECHNIQUE & DARKROOM

with James Edmonds – 6 weeks starting July 9th

7:00 pm – 10:00 pm $160.

Develop black & white film, make contact sheets, edit, crop and enlarge. Learn dodging, photograms, solarization, mat and frame types. Phottograph 3D objects & make slides of flat art work. Develop a personal vision. Shoot a roll of (400) Tri-x Black & White film to bring to first class.

BEGINNING DRAWING

with Deirdre Molloy – 6 weeks starting July 9th

7:00 pm – 10:00 pm $110

Learn to draw basic shapes and how to shade them. Analyze everyday objects and the shapes within them. Advance to still life. Some perspective included.

Thursday

PRINTMAKING – MONITORED (No instruction)

10:00 am – 1:00 pm $115. + $5. solvent fee 6 weeks starting July 10th

ACNNJ students/members may work in the print studio in etching, monoprint, relief, safe photo-etching and digital lithography.

THE FIGURE IN WATERCOLOR

Artists of all levels will develop their own style while painting the model. Individual attention and instruction in flesh tones and drapery.

Learn the basics of printmaking including lino and wood blocks and etching. A great foundation for future study.
