In this Sunday workshop at ACNNJ, sculptor & painter Herrat Sommerhoff walks in the footsteps of legendary NYC artist and cultural icon Louise Nevelson (1899–1988). Nevelson’s sculptures - often compositions of intricately cut salvaged pieces - are typically monochromatic black or white and were often made of refuse found on city streets.
With this inspiration, learn to see everyday items in new ways, sparking creativity from daily experiences that need not be mundane. As a practitioner and advocate in found object collage, assemblage & sculpture for decades, Herrat is the consummate guide to recycling objects, considering and valuing each component. In this workshop, focus on assemblage, creating your own 3-D art pieces from a range of cast-off cardboard shapes and packaging. Assorted materials and adhesives will be available, but bring any dimensional cardboard you may wish to incorporate.
